Seal- Tite International was contacted in regards to a leak in the SCSSV hydraulic system in an offshore gas production well in the North Sea. A severe control line leak was detected 111’ below the wellhead caused by unknown control line damage. A liquid leak rate of 2 liter/min @ 4000 psi was measured and communication observed with the production annulus. After several repair attempts using Seal-Tite’s pressure activated sealant technology, further diagnostics determined the liquid leak rate had worsened indicating the leak site was growing. Another pressure-activated sealant treatment was applied successfully with reduced SCSSV operating pressure to prevent further damage to the control line. The customer happily reported that their well has been on production for over 1 week at the time of this post.
